Fun Facts and Amazon Photos is part of the series written by different authors that follow the same formula: stock photos on each page and short description from Wikipedia about the animal described in the book. The style of the book is not original or creative, but information is OK for the most part. The book covers eyes, can horses talk, horse's habits, wild horses, types of horses, horse happenings, relaxing rides, horse training, horse habits. The author modified Wiki information to make it a little more conversational (more effort than a typical book of this type). These modification made the book more age appropriate for children. Instead of one large photo on each page, the book has a collage of several small photos, I would have preferred the photos to be bigger so we can see the details better,

HORSES Fun Facts and Amazing Photos of Animals in Nature Amazing Animal Kingdom Book 4 1 Emma Child Reviews
Another book in the Amazing Animals series. The author covers a lot of ground in relatively few pages. I would classify this as a nonfiction chapter book, most appropriate for students in second through fourth grades. I like the X Ray feature for the pictures, as they are very small.
Topics include physical description of horses and how their senses function, their habits, environments, grooming care, as well as the different classification groups of horses. Child gives a bit of the history of horses and discusses how the relationship with humans evolved. In addition to the basic information, I learned a few new things like the surface of a horse's teeth gets worn but continues to re-grow, and that the digestive system of a horse permits them only to eat small amounts at one time.
There are a few editing errors; most readers will be more interested in the information presented. I recommend this book for children who love horses, as a read aloud or independent reading selection in a classroom library.
Horses are the kind of animal everyone loves. Many children want to have a horse to ride. Everyone loves to look at horses, and horses play an important part in our lives.
Emma Child, the author, is the author of several Amazing Animal Kingdom Series. She has always been fascinated by nature and inspired by a love of animals. Her books for children are educational and fun. She has written this book about horses that contains so much information. The photos are exceptional, if you click on them, the picture will enlarge. The better to see you with, my dear!
Parents/teachers will have a great deal of fun reading this book to their children. The children can tell tales of their experiences with horses. They can also share the information they learned while reading this book. There are 400 different breeds or kinds of horses. They like to live with other horses or in herds. Did you know horses sleep standing up? They only heed 3-4 hours of sleep a day. They have very strong legs and have approximately 205 bones in their bodies. These and many, many more facts are available in this book. You will be amazed at what you learn about horses. Note a complimentary copy if this book was provided to read and review.

I love this author's books because they're so much fun that you don't think you're reading something "educational" until you realize how much you've learned. Until fairly recent times, the horse was an integral part of human life. Now they've been reduced (if that's the word) to a pleasant pastime, but we remain fascinated by them.
Ms. Child takes you through the history of horse domestication and breeding, with emphasis on the traits that made horses so indispensable to humans for centuries - their strength, speed, and intelligence. I knew that the "wild" horses of the American West are actually feral (descendents of domesticated horses) but didn't understand that the last true wild horses were found in Mongolia and now are all in captivity. I knew that horses have excellent peripheral vision, but their superior night vision and sense of smell came as a surprise. I also never realized the significance of their ear structure and how they are able to use their ears in ways that aren't possible for humans.
The author includes explanations of some commonly confused horse terms such as foal, filly, and colt, and discusses some breeds of horses and their importance. Most children have seen draft horses in beer commercials, but I suspect few understand how much we depended on the large breeds in pre-machinery days. I can't imagine any child who wouldn't be fascinated with this book.
